One can hear a lot about the benefits of mindfulness these days. Practicing mindfulness can help to slow racing thoughts, calm anxiety, and refocus a worried mind.

Mindfulness is not a cure but is a helpful addition to any mental health toolbox. With mindfulness, you intentionally and nonjudgmentally focus on the Now.

One mindfulness technique is to pick an object and spend 5 or 10 minutes focusing on just that object. Use all your physical senses. How does it look? How does it feel? How does it smell? Does it make a sound? How does it taste? If you get distracted or if your mind begins to wander, simply refocus on the object.

Give this technique a try next time you feel a bit anxious or stressed. Let me know what you discover!
