The Value of Your Values

Do you stick to your values? How you answer that question has an impact on the level of your self-respect.

Values are the things that are important to the way you live your life. You can’t see values but you show your values by the way you live your life, by your relationships, and by the decisions you make.

There are a lot of different values and each person places a different level of importance to individual values. Examples of values are honesty, faith, family, security, etc.

Make a list of what your values are. If you need to, do an online search for ‘values list’ to help. Once you have your list, consider the way you live your life. How are your values reflected in your daily decisions and behaviors?

Self-respect comes from living out your values. If you notice a discrepancy between important values and your life choices, then this can be reflected in a low level of self-respect. To increase self-respect, decide each day how you will live out your important values.

Shared values are also an important part of healthy relationships. If you are having to compromise on your important values to stay in a relationship, then that compromise becomes a red flag.

What values are most important to you? How well are you living that out?
