To a certain extent we all wear different masks depending on where we are and who we are with. There is the professional mask to wear at work, the cautious mask to wear in new situations, and the helper mask to wear when assisting someone. These masks reflect the roles we undertake and are usually quite appropriate.

But other kinds of masks are not so appropriate. One example is the mask of happy when one really feels sad or upset. There is also the mask of satisfaction that hides discontent. A mask that hides who we are and how we are feeling may be put on with the best of intentions. But it becomes a hinderance to mental well-being.

This mask hides our emotions and negates our feelings. It tells the world that all is fine even when all is most certainly not fine. It hides who we really are and keeps other people at a distance.

What kind of mask are you wearing? What does this mask hide?
